Fan into Flame - Texas Update
FAN INTO FLAME - MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN AMARILLO, TEXAS
-February, 2008

Prince of Peace in Amarillo, a congregation of 250 members, received strong encouragement from their Pastor Jeff Geske to become a part of Synod's Fan into Flame effort. With money still being received, the congregation has raised almost $24,000.

Knowing that 15% of their gift would be returned to them for local mission efforts, DCE Intern, Amanda Bell was asked to develop some creative ways that Prince of Peace might impact the community with the Good News of Jesus.

Their first effort was to host a "free" noon meal last August for all of the local elementary school teachers who were preparing for school to begin. They dialogued with the teachers to determine how POP could best "serve" the faculty, students and parents. They discovered ways that they could legally reach the children with some written material about activities at the church.

In October they were invited to educational programs in the church. In November and early December they were extended an invitation to a "Night in Bethlehem". A narrator led groups of people to the manger scene where the Christmas story was told along with a bold witness to the need for all of us to come to the manger in faith.

Thank you Prince of Peace in Amarillo…making a difference in Amarillo and around the world.
